ABOUT KESSIAH

— CREATURES & CHARACTERS —

Kessiah is a Greater London based FX artist trained in the art of creature and character effects for motion pictures and streaming series. She enjoys creating the weird, wild and wonderful through large scale puppets and animatronics, as well as prosthetic make ups and casualty FX, and specialises in the fields of concept design, sculpting and art finishing.

— STOP MOTION ANIMATION —

In 2021 Kessiah studied with Aardman’s Academy, and was enrolled on the first runs of their 3 month courses Stop Motion I and II. During these courses she produced, directed and animated her first two award winning short films under her own studio Llama Face Studios

 —BIOGRAPHY—


Kessiah is a British artist known for working as a sculptor and art finisher in the creature effects and prosthetics/special make up effects departments for feature films and streaming series. She is also known for her own animation short films which has gained international recognition and won numerous awards

Kessiah was born on 12 November 1990 and grew up in a small village in South Lincolnshire. Her mother is Chinese and her father Welsh, and has two siblings, an older sister and a younger brother. She achieved 12 GCSEs and 4 A levels at Bourne Grammer School (now known as Bourne Academy) and graduated with a first class honours degree in Graphic Design at De Montfort University, in 2012.

 She relocated to London in 2013 to pursue a career in the film industry. She retrained in prosthetics and special make up effects through short courses at London College of Fashion and Delamar Academy in 2014.  After working for various commercials, tv series, independent films and music videos in art department and special effects, she worked on her first major motion picture in the prosthetics department, Beauty and the Beast in 2015. Since then she has worked on numerous notable titles for major studios including Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018), Star Wars Episodes VIII (2017) and IX (2019), The King’s Man (2021) and Marvel’s Moonknight (2022) in creature effects and prosthetics/special make up effects departments.

During 2021 and 2022 she studied stop motion animation with Aardman’s very own academy in her own time, which led to her directorial and animation debut with her first short animated film Stop Motion: The Making Of (2021), closely followed by Pondering Potatoes (2022). Both films were selected and screened in over 50 international film festivals and  awarded over 19 awards. 

Her creative style is strongly influenced by the works of Stan Winston, Guillermo Del Toro, Wes Anderson and Steven Spielberg, as well as numerous comedies. She is passionate about paleontology, prehistoric history and mythology. Her favourite film is Jurassic Park (1993) closely followed by Pan’s Labyrinth (2006) and Chicken Run (2000).

She continues to work in creature and prosthetic make up effects departments, and producing her own animated films and stories under her studio Llama Face Studios, becoming known for her unusual and engaging characters that reflect her own personality and sense of humour.
